About the Role
Talos is seeking a Backend Software Engineering Intern to join our Trading team for Summer 2025. The Trading team owns the Order Management System (OMS), responsible for all trading-related decisions for orders on the Talos platform. Success in this role will involve designing and building a backtester to assess new algorithmic trading strategies and modifications, allowing for comprehensive analysis and refinement. This role is integral to enhancing our trading infrastructure and will provide valuable insights into algo performance and system behavior..

Responsibilities and Duties

Design, develop, and implement a robust backtesting framework for the OMS
Collaborate with a mentor to define the project scope, requirements, and technical milestones
Create design documentation outlining backtesting objectives, architecture, and implementation details
Build the backtester in Golang, integrating advanced metrics and analytics to evaluate algorithmic performance
Iteratively develop, test, and refine the backtester, ensuring accuracy and scalability
Present regular demos and progress updates to the Trading team, incorporating feedback to enhance functionality
Conduct thorough testing to validate backtesting outputs and troubleshoot potential discrepancies
Qualifications
Experience Level: Current undergraduate student graduating in 2026
Education: Pursuing a degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering
Proficiency in at least one compiled language (e.g., Go, C++, Java)
At least one previous internship involving working on backend systems in a production environment, preferably in a user-facing context
Strong understanding of software design principles and familiarity with algorithmic logic and data structures
Experience with metrics and analytics tools is a plus
Detail-oriented, self driven, analytical, and enthusiastic about working on impactful projects
Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate technical concepts effectively
Ability to work both independently and within a collaborative team environment
Energetic, creative, and a self-starter who can manage tasks autonomously
