DRW is a diversified trading firm with over 3 decades of experience bringing sophisticated technology and exceptional people together to operate in markets around the world. We value autonomy and the ability to quickly pivot to capture opportunities, so we operate using our own capital and trading at our own risk.

Headquartered in Chicago with offices throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Asia, we trade a variety of asset classes including Fixed Income, ETFs, Equities, FX, Commodities and Energy across all major global markets. We have also leveraged our expertise and technology to expand into three non-traditional strategies: real estate, venture capital and cryptoassets.

We operate with respect, curiosity and open minds. The people who thrive here share our belief that it’s not just what we do that matters–it's how we do it. DRW is a place of high expectations, integrity, innovation and a willingness to challenge consensus.

The Linux team is responsible for providing consistent, clean, and stable foundational infrastructure that enables trading desks, developers, and our internal customers to run their applications as efficiently and deterministically as possible. Our team takes pride in leaving our environment cleaner than we found it and ensuring our users have a consistent experience. We are seeking a Manager for the Linux Team to lead our global Linux engineering staff, set and own the vision for Linux at DRW, and ensure its successful implementation.

Our Philosophy:

  • We prefer standard and proven technology choices but embrace new options when they provide a competitive advantage.
  • We have strong opinions that are loosely held: we change our opinions in light of new evidence with the goal of ensuring the right path is chosen for the business.
  • We believe in a relentless reduction of toil and manual labor for our Linux Engineers so we can focus on solving new and challenging problems.
  • We believe in utility grade services and strive to be proactive in our monitoring, alerting, and maintenance of Linux servers to provide a consistent and stable foundation for the firm’s most important and performance sensitive applications

As Manager of Linux Engineering at DRW, you will:

  • Create and own the vision for Linux servers at DRW with the guidance of technical experts on the Linux team. This includes creating a multi-year strategy and directing prioritization of initiatives to satisfy business requirements.
  • Guide and own internal product offerings and roadmap for Linux servers, including OS and hardware lifecycles, standard server platforms, and managing expected delivery dates, deadlines, and resource allocations.
  • Partner with trading desks and business units to identify opportunities to add or refine products that create positive value and lower effort to deploy front, mid, and back office applications.
  • Use input from technical experts on the team and business units to set and own transparent SLEs, SLOs, and SLIs for Linux servers.
  • Partner with peer teams to increase overall velocity and quality of provisioning and maintaining Linux servers while lowering operational burden.

Your background:

  • 5+ years of managing Linux engineering and operations teams. This experience includes having a strong strategic and technical leadership perspective to grow a team through additional headcount and individual employee growth.
  • 10+ years of deep technical experience with Linux servers running a major Linux distribution (RedHat, CentOS, Rocky, Alma, Ubuntu, or Debian), including a deep understanding of hardware, kernel tuning, and networking.
  • Deep experience with packaging, configuration management, automation, and infrastructure as code (Ansible, Puppet, Chef, Terraform Metal Kubed)

About you:

  • A keen eye for detail and wisdom to know when to focus on the big picture.
  • A proven track record of building and sustaining a cohesive and empowering team culture: you know that the strongest team is one where everyone has the criteria and confidence to make independent decisions.
  • A low tolerance for repetitive tasks, and a passion for automating them.
  • Your default is engineering reusable, scalable, and sustainable code, systems, and processes and you have the track record to show it.
  • A service-focused mindset for delivering reliable, performant, and secure foundational infrastructure for DRW’s most important and performance sensitive applications.
  • A passion for long term, sustainable, and well-defined infrastructure and products and the flexibility to recognize when a nimble response to a niche use is advantageous to the business.
