We are the leading nonprofit membership organization dedicated to promoting a pro-innovation policy environment for the digital asset economy. The Association endeavors to achieve regulatory clarity and educate policymakers, regulators, and the courts about how blockchain technology can pave the way for a more secure, competitive, and consumer-friendly digital marketplace. The Association represents over 130 member organizations reflecting the wide range of the dynamic blockchain industry, including software developers, infrastructure providers, exchanges, custodians, investors, and others supporting the public blockchain ecosystem.
Position Summary
The Vice President of Policy (VP of Policy) is a key leadership role, serving as the strategic architect and primary driver of the Blockchain Association’s legislative, regulatory, and public policy agenda. The VP for Policy is responsible for shaping and directing the Association's policy goals and narratives, providing invaluable support to advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill and with key regulatory agencies (including the SEC, CFTC, Treasury, and Federal Reserve). The VP of Policy ensures the digital asset industry has a clear, unified voice in the national and global policy dialogue. This role requires exceptional political acumen, deep subject matter expertise, and proven leadership capabilities.
Role and Responsibilities
Policy Strategy and Vision
- Develop, articulate, and execute the comprehensive federal policy strategy that protects and advances the interests of the Blockchain Association and its member companies.
- Anticipate and proactively respond to emerging legislative and regulatory threats and opportunities impacting digital assets, decentralized finance (DeFi), and blockchain technology.
- Direct the creation of white papers, policy reports, regulatory comment letters, and testimony to establish the BA as the authoritative source on blockchain policy.
Public Representation and Communications
- Act as a principal expert for the Blockchain Association on policy matters, translating complex regulatory issues for industry stakeholders and for public-facing communications.
- Offer policy talking points for public forums, conferences, hearings, and policy roundtables
- Represent BA at public forums, conferences, hearings, and public roundtables as needed.
- Collaborate closely with the Communications, Industry Affairs, and Government Relations and Legal teams to ensure policy messaging is consistent, compelling, and aligned with overall organizational strategy.
Executive Leadership and Team Management
- Manage, mentor, and grow the policy team, setting performance goals and ensuring high standards of execution and ethical conduct.
- Work collaboratively with other department heads to integrate policy objectives into all aspects of the Association’s operations and membership offerings.
Stakeholder Engagement and Coalition Building
- Lead policy engagement with BA member companies, synthesizing diverse industry perspectives into a unified and effective advocacy platform.
- Build and strengthen strategic alliances and coalitions with other industry groups, think tanks, and advocacy organizations to maximize influence.
Qualifications
To qualify, you must have:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in public policy, government relations, regulatory affairs, or a combination thereof, with a significant track record of success in a senior leadership role.
- Deep, demonstrable expertise in the regulatory and legislative landscape concerning financial technology, digital assets, cryptocurrency, or global capital markets.
- Extensive experience working directly with U.S. government entities, including the U.S. Congress and key federal regulators (e.g., SEC, CFTC, Treasury, FinCEN).
- Exceptional written, verbal, and public presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex policy positions to diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to lead, manage, and scale a high-performing team of policy professionals.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required; a Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Master’s degree in Public Policy, Economics, or a related field is strongly preferred.
Compensation Information
- Salary Range: $200,000-400,000
- Possible salary increases and bonuses for strong performance
