Blockchain Association is the collective voice for the blockchain and cryptocurrency industry. We are the leading nonprofit membership organization dedicated to promoting a pro-innovation policy environment for the digital asset economy. The Association endeavors to achieve regulatory clarity and educate policymakers, regulators, and the courts about how blockchain technology can pave the way for a more secure, competitive, and consumer-friendly digital marketplace. The Association represents some 100 member organizations reflecting the wide range of the dynamic blockchain industry, including software developers, infrastructure providers, exchanges, custodians, investors, and others supporting the public blockchain ecosystem.
Role and Responsibilities
As a Government Relations Associate, you will report to BA’s Executive Vice President of Government Relations and collaborate with BA staff across the organization being responsible for:
- Government Relations Strategy: Execute the government affairs strategy that aligns with the association's goals and policy priorities under the direction of the Executive Vice President of Government Relations.
- Advocacy and Lobbying: Develop and maintain relationships with government officials, legislators, and regulatory agencies to advance the association's interests and advocate for favorable policies
- Monitoring Rulemaking and Agendas: Identify and track federal register updates and agency rulemaking, and report weekly to the BA staff on summaries of the proposed regulations, potential impacts on the association, and key deadlines for public comment.
- Education: Educate lawmakers about the industry by communicating complex concepts via tools such as distributing one-pagers, factsheets, reports, and testimony
- Legislative Outreach:** **Represent the association at government hearings, meetings, and events to articulate the association’s positions and influence decision-makers
- Coalition Building: Collaborate with institutional industry associations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders to build coalitions and alliances that amplify the association’s advocacy and legal efforts
- Industry Engagement: Participate in industry conferences and government events to network and ensure the association’s impact is communicated
Qualifications
To qualify, you must:
- Have a bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, government relations, or a related field
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in government affairs, lobbying, or a related role, with a strong understanding of the legislative and regulatory process
- A demonstrated interest in and understanding of blockchain technology, cryptocurrency, and/or financial services industries and related policies
- Knowledge of relevant policy issues and a demonstrated ability to analyze and communicate complex policy matters
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with government officials, policymakers, institutional players, and industry stakeholders
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop and execute effective government affairs strategies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly and persuasively communicate the organization's positions to diverse audiences
Our Ideal Candidate is early in their career but has already demonstrated that they can play a pivotal role in shaping and executing government relations. They will be based in Washington DC and on Capitol Hill frequently to monitor legislative and regulatory developments, develop and maintain relationships with key government representatives, and effectively communicate the association’s positions on various policy matters to government officials.
Compensation Information
- Base Salary Range: USD $100,000-125,000 annually
