a16z speedrun is the firm’s program to invest in, and help, new startups. We run a 2x/year program that spans 12 weeks, with dozens of startups working out of a16z’s offices in SF and LA. So far we've invested in over 150 startups with $180M+ in capital deployed.

The Role

We’re hiring a Partner, Investor Ecosystem to build our network of investors in preseed/seed - including, but not limited to solo angels, seed funds, family offices, and early stage venture firms. This is a high-impact, externally-facing role directly helping our founders.

You’ll build and scale investor-facing programs, events, and strategic touchpoints that serve both sides of our ecosystem: providing Speedrun founders with timely investor access, and delivering meaningful opportunities for investors to engage with the next wave of breakout companies. You will partner closely with our Speedrun investing team, capital networks function, marketing partners, and others to shape this ecosystem. This is a high-impact, externally-facing, and highly collaborative role that blends ecosystem development, strategy, and execution excellence.

This role requires an in-office presence 1-2 days a week in our San Francisco, CA office

To join our team, you should be excited to:

  • Ecosystem Development: Set strategy for the expansion and curation of an ecosystem for Speedrun investors. Own and expand Speedrun’s global network of investors across stages and sectors
  • Investor Programming: Own our most visible capital moments. Design and lead targeted programs (e.g., small-group summits, office hours, private dinners, sector showcases, and digital campaigns) that deepen investor engagement and drive funding outcomes for Speedrun companies. Partner with our events operations teams to ensure these programs are delivered in a first-class way. Use data, software, and relationships to drive volume and signal in collaboration with both internal teams and external partners
  • Founder Support: Work closely with Speedrun portfolio companies to shape fundraising strategy, pitch narrative, and investor targeting. Your matchmaking should be timely, precise, and strategic
  • Data & Insights: Build systems for managing investor engagement, CRM flows, email marketing, and touchpoints. You’ll monitor investor performance, engagement, and re-engagement across programs and cohorts. You’ll identify white space and opportunities to refine and improve Speedrun’s investor strategy
  • Stakeholder Management: Serve as a trusted liaison to top investors and partners. Manage communications, expectations, and follow-through with rigor and care. Collaborate closely with Speedrun’s investing, programs, and marketing teams to ensure strategic alignment and execution across all investor-facing touchpoints

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: 4-8+ years of experience in VC, startup investing, corporate development, business development, or strategic operations. Experience within a high-velocity VC fund or startup preferred. You’ve either deployed capital, sold to those who do, and/or built similar systems at scale. Experience working with or advising startups in an accelerator, incubator, or venture ecosystem is a plus
  • Investor Magnetism: You are respected in the community of early-stage investors, with a magnetic personal brand. You can single-handedly represent Speedrun to the investor ecosystem
  • Ecosystem Fluency: A strong pre-existing network and intuitive understanding of the early-stage investor landscape, a knowledge of what investors specialize in and are looking for, and a deep passion for building community with new investors and incumbents alike
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to lead and work with cross-functional partners marked by low ego, high dependability, effective collaboration and consistently good judgment
  • Operator’s Mindset: Demonstrated ability to ruthlessly prioritize, manage multiple workstreams, and execute with precision and attention to detail.
  • Program Builder: You’ve built or scaled programs from scratch. You understand segmentation, funnel conversion, and the difference between “activity” and “outcome”
  • Data-Driven: You are comfortable using CRM tools, workflows, and marketing automation to scale relationships. You’re excited to partner with engineering and AI tooling to 10x output even in an older stack
  • Stakeholder Obsessed: Confident engaging with senior external partners and representing the firm with professionalism and integrity. Exceptional communication, coaching, and documentation skills to support both high-leverage 1:1 engagements and scalable founder education
  • High-context operator. You understand rooms, reputations, and timing. You track investor behavior like a good product manager tracks users - and act accordingly. You know who’s new, who’s overcommitted, who’s a tourist, and who’s got dry powder. You bring context, not just coverage
  • Collaborative & Low-Ego: You thrive in fast-moving environments, are proactive and thoughtful, and know how to work well across cross-functional teams

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $228,000 - $266,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.

This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
