The Role
As the GTM Partner, Financial Services on our GTM Network team, you will have the exciting opportunity to manage and build relationships with the world’s top financial services institutions, including the top global banks, asset managers, card networks, and investment banks. As a Financial Services GTM Partner, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and driving our firm’s relationships with key executives in these organizations, further developing our network across the financial services ecosystem.
This role demands a strategic thinker with subject matter expertise in fintech and enterprise technology and an ability to build strong executive relationships. As part of the a16z Go-to-Market team, you will bring your expertise, executive rolodex, and knowledge of financial services market dynamics and ecosystem. You will have an opportunity to advise a16z portfolio companies on how to navigate, partner with, and sell to these organizations. By doing this you will play a crucial role in helping accelerate their go-to-market efforts and time to revenue.
This role is based in New York City and requires regular in-office presence.
To join our team, you should be excited to:
- Work with large, complex, financial services institutions on a global scale. This includes the world’s top global and regional banks, asset managers, card networks, and investment banks
- Cultivate strategic relationships with C-level and S/VP-level executives and technology buyers in financial services organizations across lines of business; understand their mission-critical priorities, technology, and business initiatives; connect executives with a16z portfolio companies to accelerate their GTM efforts
- Work with a16z founders across a16z fintech and AI applications portfolio to advise on Go-To-Market strategies
- Build and execute a strategy and plan to engage tech buyer personas and senior business executives in identified accounts across the financial services sector, including global and regional banks, card and credit networks, and asset managers. This includes market analysis and segmentation, and a detailed action plan with specific activities and timelines. Continuously review and adjust the plan to ensure alignment with the investing team and portfolio priorities
- Lead efforts to build key network relationships through in-person meetings, events, and conferences to broaden and deepen network connectivity, while creating commercial opportunities for the a16z portfolio. This may include hosting dinners, receptions, and industry-focused events to bring together our corporate network, firm, and portfolio
- Attend industry conferences to drive new relationships with key decision-makers, buyers, and influencers in the FSI ecosystem
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to align on business development initiatives and other firm-wide goals
- Stay abreast of a16z investment areas, industry trends, and portfolio investments, while leveraging these insights to drive business development opportunities
Minimum Qualifications
- 15+ years working in financial services, in a business development, strategic account management, or operating role; Strong people management experience
- Track record of building strong relationships with tech startup founders; fintech startup experience is a plus
- Proven track record of bringing in emerging technologies as solutions for financial services institutions. Ability to develop long-term relationships with executive decision-makers, leading to retained business and growth
- Extremely strong active network and relationships in the financial services industry
- Ability to discern industry needs and trends, effectively communicating insights to investment partners
- Excellent acumen of both fintech and enterprise technology and ability to stay abreast of the latest developments in AI
- Ability to prioritize and manage work and trade-offs against critical project timelines in a fast-paced, dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with a focus on detail and executive presence
- You are an analytical thinker, using data to build a strategy
- Low ego, high empathy, and the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or related field. MBA or advanced education is advantageous
The anticipated salary range for this role is between $440,000 - $513,000, actual starting pay may vary based on a range of factors which can include experience, skills, and scope.
This role is eligible to participate in the a16z Carry program and various discretionary bonus programs as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K plan, vacation, and sick leave.
